The Victoria and Albert Museum (often abbreviated as the V&A) is the world’s largest museum of decorative arts and design. It houses an incredible collection of over 2.27 million objects from cultures across Europe, North America, Asia and North Africa in an impressive space. The V&A covers 12.5 acres, was founded in 1852 and named after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
One can easily spend a whole day perusing the fascinating artifacts from different times and cultures. Highlights include the European Medieval section, featuring some gorgeous enamel engravings and some of the earliest examples of illumination – the art of colouring passages from the bible with vibrant paint.
Elsewhere in the museum you can find examples of ceramics, glass, textiles, costumes, silver, ironwork, jewellery, furniture, medieval objects, sculpture, prints and printmaking, drawings and photographs.
With 5000 years of culture housed in the museum, the Victoria and Albert is an absolute must visit on your trip to London.
