Historic Museum
Secretly located underneath the Treasury, this was the underground headquarters of Winston Churchill’s War Cabinet and British High Command during World War 2. Highlights include the Cabinet Room where the wartime cabinet was held, and where clocks remain set to 4.58pm – the exact time of the first ever cabinet meeting. Look out for the scratch marks on Churchill’s chair at the end of the table, caused by his rings scraping against the chair’s arms as he tensely clutched them during pivotal meetings. You can walk around the war rooms, map rooms and visit a brilliant exhibition on Churchill’s life.
